“DreamStem Productions performed a full scale production at The Tank with The 4th Graders Present an Unnamed Love-Suicide by Sean Graney.  We received an amazing amount of support from The Tank’s staff.  It was as if every request we made was always met with positivity and encouragement.
“As a young theatre company, it was a great relief and help to have The Tank feel like another member of our company. We were completely free artistically. We were given lots of extra tech time, and the staff seemed genuiniely excited about our production.  We ended up packing the house for the entire run of the play and recouping our whole investment for the first time in DreamStem’s history.  We could not have imagined a better theatre experience.
“The Tank is made up of a staff of artists, who genuinely understand artists, and who help small theatre companies like us excel.  They care about your success.  We look forward to our next endeavor together because it truly was our best experience to date.  It’s vital that The Tank sticks around for many, many years.  They give theatre a voice, and artists a chance.”

The Tank has been a consistent part of my artistic life as a playwright as long as I’ve lived in New York City. I started attending the SLAM playwriting competition in December 2006 (when The Tank still resided on Church Street), and I have returned dozens of times since, often as host of the evening. As my reward for being a two-time SLAM Champion, The Tank has produced staged readings of my plays Goddamn Gorgeous Mess and Sheila St. George and the World’s Farthest Falling Man. Seeing these plays on their feet, among talented artists in a nurturing environment, has been instrumental to their growth. NYC needs theatres like The Tank where artists are
encouraged to take risks, and where anything can, and will, happen.

I produced my first show at The Tank. I was fresh out of Grad school, and very overwhelmed and lost with everything happening around me in this industry. I am so happy that I chose to work with The Tank. Some friends of mine had produced a show there, and as an audience, I loved the experience, so I decided to take a shot myself. From day one, they made it so easy for us, they were always there to answer any questions, extremely helpful, friendly and I felt like they really cared. I honestly think that their mission has nothing to do with making money out of the shows that are produced there, but to promote and help artists, in any stage of their career, and to create a friendly and safe environment, where people can showcase their work, and I can’t stress the importance of that for people like me and my colleagues.

Working at and with The Tank was a wonderful experience, and I’m very grateful that places like that can still find a way to exist in such a manic as town like New York City.

We looked around for spaces that we’d feel comfortable in to develop our new rock musical project BARCODE. Not only was The Tank incredibly affordable, the space itself was frickin gorgeous!! To top it all off, the amazing people who run it are easy going, helpful and friendly.

TANK HERO DISPATCH!
From last month’s ‘An Evening of Awkward Romance’ Wendy Herlich writes,

“In a city where many venues are beating artists off with a stick, the Tank welcomes and respects those who are self-producing. It was wonderful to be so supported and valued when I launched my original show An Evening of Awkward Romance. I always felt that the Tank was on my side and was willing to bend over backwards to accommodate my needs. Thanks to this support, I was able to sell out my show a week in advance! The Tank is a special place, especially due to its mission to support such a wide variety of work, across disciplines. I am so grateful that a place like this exists in NYC.”
