Dear Tank Friend -
On Sunday night, at the Tony Awards, I had the chance to stand on stage as part of the producing team of Kinky Boots, a ground-breaking production that won this year’s highest honor: Best New Musical. The Tank — our independent, non-profit performing arts space that just marked its 10th Anniversary — was there with me.
Working on Kinky Boots and other shows has exposed me to some of the most talented performers and creators in New York. All of these incredible individuals needed to start somewhere. Every successful artist remembers the smaller venues that gave them their start, the stage that invited them to experiment with their work. The Tank has been that space for the past ten years and plays that role for a next generation of artists.
A decade ago, Broadway director Alex Timbers and acclaimed playwright Amy Herzog were working at The Tank. Five years ago, the script that would become “Beasts of the Southern Wild” had its first incarnation at The Tank. If we want to invest in the next generation of creative talent — and create the next Kinky Boots — we need to support emerging artists today…and we can start by sustaining the venue that invests in them and their work.
Support the Tank by coming in to see a show or by donating online today.
See you at The Tank
Sincerely,
Gregory Rae
