Finally, meet Emma Zbiral-Teller, the Tank’s film curator! Emma’s work focuses on amazing, beautiful, and haunting video installations that find a home here at the Tank. Her past work includes FACE ME, an expressive one-night only installation that explored space and intimacy between people. We’re beyond excited about what she has planned for our upcoming season!
Meet Nisse Greenberg, the storytelling curator for the Tank. Nisse curates FOUR monthly series for us (!!!): DINGMANTICS, BAD FEELINGS, VHS PRESENTS, and LONG STORY LONG. This translates to one show each and every week! Nisse has been doing fantastic work for us, providing a stage for over 50 storytellers every year in New York City. If you’ve never seen a storytelling show before, come check out this fascinating, resurgent art form!
Thanks to all you lovely folks for a successful fundraising campaign!
A big Tank-sized THANK YOU to everyone for supporting us during our June fundraising campaign! Thanks to your generosity, WE MET OUR MATCH GOAL with over eighty individual contributions!! We love you lots, and we can’t wait to show you what we’re cooking up here at The Tank for the next season. For now, enjoy meeting our last two curators, and we’ll catch you on flipside…
Meet Olney Edmondson, the Tank’s second dance curator! We’re very excited about Olney’s new series, CULTURECATION, that’s starting this fall season - she’s going to highlight dance practices from cultures around the globe and give performers from different cultural backgrounds a chance to shine on our stage. If all you know about dance is western ballet, prepare to be blown away.
Today is the last day you can help us meet our matching gift! Don’t delay -donate $25 before midnight tonight and support Olney and the fantastic artists she puts on our stage. We’ll love you forever if you do!
Meet Josh Luxenberg, one of the Tank’s theater curators! The work that Josh brings into the Tank includes PUPPET PLAYLIST, our quarterly puppet slam set to a particular musician or genre of music. He also co-curates one of our signature pieces of programming, FLINT & TINDER, a series of new physical shows that each enjoy three-week runs at our theater in the heart of Manhattan! Josh’s work supports over 100 (!!!) boundary-pushing theater artists each year.
Support Josh and the artists he spotlights by donating $25 to the Tank today! We need 38 donations by Monday, June 30th to reach our matching gift - if we make it, your $25 donation becomes $50 and we’ll be in great shape as our fall season begins. But we need you (yeah, you! right there behind your computer screen!) to make it happen. So don’t be shy and donate today!
The Tank’s Artistic Director Emma McMullin and Executive Director Rosalind Grush have just one request for you: "show
me us the money!” We support the efforts of 800 groundbreaking artists in the New York area each year, but we can’t do it without your help. Donate $25 today so that we can continue our efforts to keep boundary-pushing art alive in New York City!
This is Ben Brody, the music curator for the Tank! Ben coordinates the monthly series ALL THE NOTES, ALL THE RHYTHMS which features performances by bands and individual musicians that span across genres, from classical to jazz to rock to funk and everything in between. Ben’s work with the Tank supports 50 new and boundary-pushing New York musicians each year!
To support Ben and the artists he brings to the tank, donate $25 to the Tank today! We’re dedicated to helping new, experimental artists reach new audiences and launch their careers in New York, but we can’t do it without your help. We need support from people like you to help our featured artists go on to even bigger and better things. Who knows? Your next favorite band might just get their start right here!
Meet Jill Hockett, a dance curator at the Tank! Jill organizes the monthly dance series XYZ NYC (for more information about the series, follow XYZ’s Tumblr!), a competitive series with an open signup process that allows choreographers and dancers one week to come up with a new piece; the audience will then vote for their favorite, and one lucky group will ultimately be given the opportunity to premiere a brand-new, full-length dance piece for a two-night run right here at the Tank! This program features the work of over 50 choreographers and dancers in the New York area each year, and is one of the central pieces our programming.
Jill’s work is emblematic the central mission of the Tank: to offer space to new and upcoming artists who seek to create boundary-pushing work and reach new audiences. By offering free performance and rehearsal space in the heart of New York City, we allow artists the opportunity to have their work seen and to launch their careers to even greater success. But we can’t do it without your help. Donate $25 today to support progressive artists like those featured in XYZ NYC, and that donation will be doubled! Support from people like you is what keeps the Tank going.
Hi friends! Been wondering what The Tank is up to? This video explains who we are and what we do - we are committed to supporting artists and providing space for new and exciting work. Maybe you know someone who’s worked here, or maybe you’ve heard of some artists who’ve gone on to bigger and better things after working with The Tank, such as Pulitzer Prize-nominated playwright Amy Herzog, or Lucy Alibar, whose one-act play Juicy and Delicious was the basis for the Academy Award-nominated film Beasts of the Southern Wild and which premiered right here!
Here’s the deal. We’ve gotten wind of an exciting opportunity - a challenge grant! All we need is 74 gifts of $25 by the end of June, and if we meet our goal, your $25 will become $50 for us! If we make this, we’ll be in a fantastic position to give our artists even more encouragement and support and our audiences the same fabulous, boundary-pushing programming they’ve come to know and love from us. $25 is less than a pair of jeans or a couple of movie tickets, but it can do so much for us and for our artists. If you’ve seen a show here, or if you know someone who has, or even if you’re just hearing about us now and think we seem pretty awesome (we are), we’d like to think of you as a friend of The Tank. Sometimes you just need a little help from your friends, so don’t be shy and help us out a little!
